Google: According to reports, Google intends to change the name of Bard, their AI assistant, to Gemini. A 9to5Google news article claims that the software giant will refer to Bard AI as Gemini, which is the same name as the foundation model that powers the assistant.
Google likely to rename its AI chatbot Bard to Gemini
It’s possible that Google Bard will become Google Gemini in order to better reflect the name of the LLM it is based on. This information is based on a potentially renamed changelog that was leaked and posted by app developer Dylan Russell on X. According to the changelog, “Bard is now Gemini.”
In addition to changing its name, Google’s chatbot may get an “evolved UI to reduce visual distractions, improve legibility, and simplify the navigation.”
Additionally, Google may release a paid version of the chatbot dubbed “Gemini Advanced,” which would run on “Ultra 1.0,” which the firm describes as its most sophisticated AI model to date, and include voice chat capabilities similar to those seen in ChatGPT Plus.
Gemini App on the way?
It’s also expected that Google’s AI chatbot, Gemini, will receive an Android app after changing its name from Bard. The application would resemble the Google Assistant app in essence. However, it is anticipated that the software will only be accessible on a limited number of devices—including Pixel phones and the Galaxy S24 series—in the United States.
