Google: According to The Indian Express on Friday, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) is expected to send a notice to Google on the “biassed” answer given by its AI platform Gemini to a query concerning Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Read on to know more.
Centre to issue notice to Google
A screenshot from the social media platform X shows that when Gemini questioned if PM Modi is a “fascist,” the platform said that he has been “accused of implementing policies some experts have characterised as fascist,” citing the “Hindu nationalist ideology of the BJP, its crackdown on dissent, and its use of violence against religious minorities” as just a few examples.
On the other hand, Gemini said, “Elections are a complex topic with fast-changing information,” in response to a similar inquiry concerning former US President Donald Trump, as shown in the screenshot. Use Google Search to ensure that the information you have is as accurate as possible.
The authorities might send a notice to Google in reaction to this. The generative AI platform Gemini “had earlier also presented an objectionable response to a user seeking a summary of an article from a conservative outlet, and the fresh responses on PM Modi have been the trigger for issuing the notice,” a senior government official told the Indian Express.
Responding to the X user’s outrage earlier in the day, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar declared that the platform was in breach of both other laws and Information Technology (IT) regulations.
What did the officials say?
“These are direct violations of Rule 3(1)(b) of Intermediary Rules (IT rules) of the IT act and violations of several provisions of the Criminal code,” Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar posted.
