Google: Google has officially apologised to the Indian government for the untrustworthy and unverified remarks made about Prime Minister Modi by its AI platform, Gemini. This is a substantial development. Google formally apologised to the government in response to a notification asking for an explanation for Gemini’s dubious results, according to Minister of State for IT & Electronics Rajeev Chandrasekhar. Google acknowledged the platform’s instability.
Google formally apologises to the Government
Gemini provided “unsubstantiated” results in response to a query concerning PM Modi. Due to this, Google received a notice from the authorities requesting an explanation. In response, Google reportedly said, “Sorry, the platform is unreliable,” as the minister had said. This comes after the government declared that AI platforms in India will require operating permission.
The government of India announced plans to require permissions for the operation of AI platforms, and this occurrence occurred against the backdrop of increasing scrutiny over these platforms. Rajeev Chandrasekhar underlined the need for AI platforms to show consideration for Indian consumers and outlined the potential legal consequences for disseminating incorrect information under Indian IT and criminal laws.
Another Controversy
Following numerous users’ concerns that the platform produced biassed and historically inaccurate photos. Gemini came under fire for supposedly refusing to depict white people and portraying important historical figures as people of colour instead. Google was forced to take down Gemini, its chatbot that generated images using AI. Some called the AI tool “racist” and “too woke.” Following the commotion, Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google, acknowledged the problem and said that the company “got it wrong.”
