Reena Roy, a name that once glittered brightly in Bollywood, had a career marked by both meteoric rise and sudden departure. Starting young and reaching the pinnacle of success in her teenage years, Reena’s journey is an intriguing one.
Early Career and Rise to Stardom
Born Saira Ali, Reena began her acting career at the tender age of 15 with the 1972 film “Zaroorat.” Throughout the next few years, she honed her craft, taking on supporting roles in big-budget productions and leading roles in smaller films. However, it was 1976 that proved to be a turning point.
Reena’s starring roles in the blockbuster hits “Kaalicharan” and “Naagin” rewrote box office records. At just 19, she became one of the highest-paid actresses in Bollywood, a title she held onto until the early 1980s.
Rumored Affairs and Career Peak
“Kaalicharan” cast Reena opposite the already established Shatrughan Sinha. Soon, rumors swirled about a blossoming romance between the co-stars. The significant age difference, with Sinha being 11 years older and married, only added fuel to the fire. While the actors remained tight-lipped, the whispers followed Reena throughout her career.
The early 1980s marked Reena Roy’s peak in the industry. Her on-screen pairing with Jeetendra became a box office favorite, delivering several hits. Despite her professional success, the rumors about her relationship with Shatrughan Sinha continued to cast a shadow.
Unexpected Marriage and Bollywood Comeback
In a move that surprised everyone, Reena Roy decided to step away from the limelight at the young age of 26, right at the height of her career. In 1983, she married Pakistani cricketer Mohsin Khan and settled across the border.
Their marriage, however, wasn’t meant to last. Reena returned to India in 1992 and made a comeback to Bollywood the following year with a supporting role in “Aadmi Khilona Hai.” Several films, including “Refugee,” followed in the coming years.
Later Life and Legacy
Post-2000, Reena focused on raising her daughter while taking on occasional film projects. Today, she resides in Mumbai, a living testament to the fleeting nature of fame and the enduring power of personal choices.
