Speaking at the occasion, the Prime Minister stated that Bharat Mandapam is currently experiencing the start of Lord Mahavira’s 2550th Nirvan Mahotsav. “I extend my wishes to the people of the country on the occasion of Mahavir Jayanti. To be part of such a program during the hustle and bustle of elections is comforting,” he said.
Guiding Principles of Bhagwan Mahavir
Bhagwan Mahavir, the 24th Tirthankar, used Jain values like asteya (non-stealing), sata (truthfulness), ahimsa (non-violence), brahmacharya (chastity), and aparigraha (non-attachment) to reveal the way of harmonious coexistence and global fraternity.
Every Tirthankar, including Magavir Swami ji, has five important events that Jains commemorate: Chyavana/Garbha (Conception); Janma (Birth); Diksha (Renunciation); Kevaljnana (Omniscience); and Nirvana (Liberation/Ultimate Salvation).
