ICC T20 World Cup 2024: With less than a month to go for the tournament to begin, a major threat has taken over. On Monday, West Indies, the co-host of the T20 World Cup received a terror threat.
The threat came from North Pakistan and various sources have confirmed the news. The threat coming so close to the tournament can put this tournament in danger and the West Indies Cricket Board knows that.
That is why, Cricket West Indies(CWI), has informed the public that all safety precautions have been taken. The whole island has been alerted of the terror and all the precautions are being taken. The T20 World Cup is set to be played in the USA and West Indies from June 1 to 29.
ICC T20 World Cup 2024 In Danger?
The West Indies will hold the matches in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Guyana, Saint Lucia, St Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago. While the terror threat has put CWI in action mode, the USA has not received any kind of threat so far.
The Carribean islands have been alerted to potential terror risks originating from North Pakistan. CWI has also released a statement to put everyone’s mind at ease.
A source has stated “We are closely monitoring the situation and maintaining close communication with relevant authorities. Continuous evaluation of security measures is underway to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any identified risks.”
Champions Trophy 2025 In Jeopardy?
This terror threat has also put the upcoming Champions Trophy in 2025 at a huge risk. The tournament will take place in Pakistan in 2025 and these security concerns might put that at risk.
India is also unwilling to travel to Pakistan amidst such security concerns. ICC will take their decision in the Annual General Meeting in July. Where they will ponder on the idea of relocating the Champions Trophy.
