Verka Milk Price Hike: Verka Milk Plant and Mother Dairy have announced an increase in the price of milk by Rs 2 per kg across Punjab, effective from June 3. Dr. Surjit Singh, General Manager of the Ludhiana plant, stated that the price hike is a response to the seasonal increase in milk prices during the summer.
Reason for the Price Hike
Dr. Singh explained that the higher temperatures have led to a decline in milk production, resulting in an increase in the price of raw milk. He noted, “Due to the increased temperature, there has been a decline in milk production, which has caused an increase in the price of raw milk.” This adjustment aims to offset the reduced supply and the associated cost increases.
Impact on Consumers
Consumers across Punjab should prepare for the new pricing structure as Verka Milk Plant and Mother Dairy adjust to the seasonal challenges impacting milk production. The price hike is expected to affect household budgets, especially for families that rely heavily on milk and milk products.
Industry Response
Industry experts have pointed out that such price adjustments are common during the summer months when milk production typically decreases due to heat stress on dairy animals. They advise consumers to plan their purchases accordingly and consider alternative sources of nutrition if necessary.
This price change underscores the impact of environmental factors on agricultural production and the resulting economic adjustments that businesses must make to sustain operations.
