Four Trekkers Feared Dead as 22-Member Team Trapped in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi
The distressing situation unfolded when a 22-member trekking team, sent by the Himalayan View Trekking Agency from Maneri on May 29, embarked on a challenging 35-kilometer trek from Uttarkashi. The team consisted of 18 trekkers from Karnataka, one from Maharashtra, and three local guides, according to Uttarkashi District Magistrate Meharban Singh Bisht.
On Wednesday morning, the third rescue team, comprising four members of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), was dispatched to join the ongoing search operation. The team was expected to return by June 7 but lost its way due to severe weather conditions near the final base camp before reaching Sahastra Tal, Bisht said.
The authorities are making every effort to locate and rescue the stranded trekkers. The challenging terrain and unpredictable weather are complicating the rescue efforts, but both ground and aerial searches continue with urgency. The situation remains critical as the rescue teams strive to reach the trekkers and bring them to safety.
