ICC T20 World Cup 2024: Virat Kohli and his approach in T20 cricket will always be an area of debate. In IPL 2024, everyone criticized his anchor approach and the Indian batsman adapted pretty quickly to the modern T20 game.
But he has been struggling in the ongoing T20i World Cup so far. On a pitch like Nassau County’s his aggressive approach is not working so far. In the first two matches, he has not been able to touch a double-digit score.
And just like always, everyone has started questioning his approach once again. Sunil Gavaskar called his approach irresponsible earlier. And now Sanjay Manjrekar has advised him to get back to his old form. Keep in mind that Kohli is the leading run-scorer in the tournament history.
‘Old Virat Kohli Would Be Better’
Manjrekar stated “The problem with Virat Kohli is that there has been a lot of talk about his strike rate over the last two years, and he completely changed that during this IPL season.
His strike rate had reached 150, although others had almost 200, but that is a different topic. He probably must have come to the T20 World Cup with that same mindset, but given the pitches, the old Virat Kohli would have been much better.”
He further stated that he thinks that the ‘Old Virat Kohli’ would be far better in New York. Manjrekar advised him to get back to his old self and then start being aggressive as soon as the pitches are flat again.
ICC T20 World Cup 2024: ‘Batting Order Debacle!
Rohit Sharma has a huge task ahead of the match against the USA in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. He has to decide on out-of-form Shivam Dube.
The matter is the batsman replacing him will also shuffle the batting order. If the Indian skipper chooses Sanju Samson, then he can directly replace Dube, but the selection of Jaiswal will see Kohli getting back to his trusted 1-down role and Rishabh Pant shuffling down the order.
