Punjab News: In a major crackdown on trans-border narcotic smuggling, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has apprehended three drug smugglers, including a key figure identified as Gurbax alias Lala of Chheharta. This operation, part of the ongoing war against drugs spearheaded by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, led to the seizure of 1 kg of Ice (Methamphetamine), 2.45 kg of Heroin, and 520 grams of pseudoephedrine, a precursor chemical.
Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav announced the arrests on Saturday. He highlighted that Gurbax alias Lala had been actively sourcing precursor chemicals used to adulterate crude heroin and manufacture Crystal Methamphetamine (ICE). “Drug smuggler Gurbax alias Lala has been earning a commission of Rs 50,000 per consignment,” DGP Yadav stated.
Details of the Operation
The Amritsar Commissionerate Police operation also led to the arrest of two other drug peddlers, identified as Daljit Kaur and Arshdeep, both residents of Chheharta. Gurbax alias Lala and Arshdeep, who have a criminal history, were both out on bail at the time of their arrest.
DGP Yadav noted that the Punjab Police’s persistent efforts against drugs are disrupting the supply chain, pushing smugglers towards local manufacturing of synthetic drugs like ICE using precursor chemicals. The police have traced the backward link of Gurbax alias Lala and are conducting a manhunt to nab the kingpin of this narco-syndicate.
- Impact of the Crackdown
This operation underscores the Punjab Police’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug peddlers and criminals under the strong administration of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. The proactive measures taken by the police are crucial in curbing the spread of narcotics and dismantling the networks involved in drug trafficking.
Broader Context
The crackdown comes amid a larger struggle against narcotics in the region, exacerbated by changes in the global drug supply chain. With the Taliban’s ban on opium production in Afghanistan creating a scarcity of heroin, local manufacturers are increasingly turning to synthetic alternatives. The Punjab Police’s efforts are not only targeting the end suppliers but also those involved in the production and distribution of these dangerous substances.
The success of this operation is a testament to the relentless efforts of the Punjab Police and their commitment to ridding the state of drug menace, ensuring a safer and healthier future for its residents.
