Congress MP Rahul Gandhi expressed his condolences on Sunday for the demise of three students who drowned in the basement of a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar, Delhi. He called it a “collective failure of the system” and maintained that the government is responsible for making sure all citizens are protected.
Rahul Gandhi’s Heartfelt Condolences
Rahul Gandhi, who is Leader of opposition in lok sabha conveyed his sorrow over the incident. He remarked, “The death of competitive students due to waterlogging in the basement of a building in Delhi is very unfortunate. Just a few days ago, a student lost their life due to an electric shock during the rains. My heartfelt condolences go out to all the bereaved families.”
Collective System Failure
Highlighting the broader issues, Gandhi added, “This collapse of infrastructure is a collective failure of the system. The common citizen is paying the price of unsafe construction, poor town planning, and irresponsibility of institutions at every level by losing lives. A safe and comfortable life is a right for every citizen and the responsibility of the governments.”
The Incident at Rau’s IAS Study Circle
Three students, Tania Soni (age 25), Shreya Yadav (age 25), and Nevin Dalwin (age 28), unfortunately lost their lives in the event, which happened at Rau’s IAS Study Circle in Old Rajinder Nagar. The basement, which was used as a library, was flooded, leading to this unfortunate incident.
Legal Actions Taken
The owner of the coaching centre, Abhishek Gupta, and the coordinator, Deshpal Singh, have been taken into custody by the police in connection with the event. Both have been accused of carelessness and culpable homicide as the authorities look into what happened to cause this avoidable disaster.
