According to the letter, notifications for reservations must be issued by Deputy Commissioners in each district as per section 11 (5) to avoid any issues for voters and candidates during the elections.
Panchayat elections were last held in 2018 under the Congress government, which saw elections for 13,276 Sarpanches and 83,831 Panchs. In February, the Panchayat Department had dissolved those panchayats that had completed their five-year term. Following this, the officials had been assigned as caretakers of the panchayats, and voter lists and other preparations have been underway.
