Paris Olympics 2024: Indian shooting star Manu Bhaker has been the face of India in the Olympics so far. She created history when she won a bronze medal in a Shooting event after 12 years for India.
Then she became immortal in history pages when she became the first Indian to win two medals in a single Olympics campaign. She was close to completing the hattrick of medals but lost by just 1 point.
With such an astonishing campaign, she was sure to be rewarded somehow. And she got rewarded in the best way possible when she was selected to be the flag bearer of India in the closing ceremony.
Paris Olympics 2024: Flag Bearer!
Manu kickstarted India’s medal tally when she ended a 12-year drought of medals in shooting and became the first Indian woman to win a medal in shooting.
After winning the medal in the individual event, she joined hands with Sarabjot Singh and won her second bronze medal in the Paris Olympics 2024. She was close to winning another medal in the 25 M shooting event but finished in the dreaded fourth position.
“Yes, Manu has been chosen to be the flag bearer. She has done exceptionally well and deserves the honour,” an IOA official told PTI. IOA has not selected the male flag bearer yet, but that will be decided in the upcoming days.
‘A Huge Honour’
Manu opened up about being selected as the flag bearer for India in the closing ceremony. She had no idea at that moment that she would be selected. “There are many in the contingent who are more deserving but it will be a real honor, if I am asked to,” Manu stated.
