The Lion King, directed by Barry Jenkins, will feature Shah Rukh Khan, the King of Bollywood, making a triumphant return as Mufasa. The film is scheduled to open in Indian cinemas on December 20, 2024. With schedules for release in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu, among other languages, the film looks to be a grand cinematic extravaganza that explores Mufasa’s history as the supreme king of the jungle. Aryan Khan and AbRam, Shah Rukh’s sons, will also be contributing vocals to this epic journey, making it even more exciting and more of a family affair.
Shah Rukh Khan Returns as Mufasa, Aryan as Simba, and AbRam as Young Mufasa
In the Hindi adaptation of ‘The Lion King,’ Shah Rukh Khan will reprise his legendary role as Mufasa, following the huge success of the live-action 2019 adaptation. This time, the narrative returns to Mufasa’s birthplace to examine his ascent to become the legendary monarch. Joining him in this journey is Aryan Khan, who voices Simba, while little AbRam adds his charm by voicing the young Mufasa.
The film’s enthusiasm has been further heightened by the potent mix of Shah Rukh Khan and his sons, as shown in the Hindi trailer that has already been published.
A Special Project for Shah Rukh Khan and His Sons
Sharing his thoughts on this special project, Shah Rukh Khan said, “Mufasa is not just a character; he’s a symbol of wisdom, strength, and fatherhood. I feel a deep connection with him, especially as a father, and revisiting Mufasa’s journey has been an extraordinary experience for me. ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ explores his life from his childhood to his rise as an incredible king, and being part of this story again is something I cherish.”
He further added, “This film is even more special because my sons, Aryan and AbRam, are also part of it. Sharing this journey with them makes it truly meaningful for me.”
A New Chapter in the Lion King’s Legacy
Under Barry Jenkins’ direction, ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ brings to life both new and well-known characters by fusing live-action filming with breathtaking photorealistic computer graphics. The film explores Mufasa’s ascent to prominence, as told by Rafiki, and meets Taka, the heir to a royal dynasty, and Mufasa, an orphaned cub, who set off on an epic voyage with a remarkable group of friends.
