Rajasthan Weather Update: — The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an ‘orange’ alert, warning of very heavy rainfall for parts of east Rajasthan, north and central India on Wednesday and Thursday. This warning comes as a result of cyclonic circulations observed in the Bay of Bengal, Gangetic West Bengal, northeast Rajasthan, and near Gujarat.
The Met Department has also cautioned that heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Kerala’s ecologically sensitive Wayanad district on Wednesday. The region has already experienced severe impacts from heavy rainfall, with landslides causing nearly 230 fatalities last month.
“Due to cyclonic circulations in the Bay of Bengal and Gangetic West Bengal, as well as in northeast Rajasthan and near Gujarat, very heavy rain is expected in east Rajasthan. North and central India are expected to receive heavy rain, with a yellow alert issued for these areas,” IMD scientist Soma Sen informed ANI.
Impact on Regions
Rajasthan and North-Central India
The cyclonic activity is likely to cause significant rainfall in east Rajasthan, north, and central India. Residents in these areas are advised to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions to avoid the potential dangers posed by heavy rainfall and the subsequent risks of flooding and landslides.
Kerala’s Wayanad District
In Kerala, Wayanad district is on alert as heavy rainfall is predicted to exacerbate the already fragile ecological situation. The region, which is still reeling from last month’s landslides, is advised to be prepared for possible evacuations and emergency measures.
Odisha and Future Forecast
IMD scientist Soma Sen further stated that “from August 16, heavy rain is predicted in Odisha.” The authorities in Odisha have been notified to prepare for the incoming weather conditions, ensuring adequate measures are in place to handle any emergencies that may arise due to the anticipated heavy rainfall.
Precautionary Measures Given the severity of the forecast, the IMD advises residents in the affected areas to follow safety guidelines issued by local authorities. Precautions include staying indoors during heavy rains, avoiding travel to susceptible areas, and staying informed through official weather updates.
