BCCI Secretary Jay Shah is in overdrive mode as he wants to make the IPL 2025 bigger than ever. Since the inception of the Indian Premier League, it has been like a festival to Indian fans.
After all, this competition has changed the landscape of T20 cricket all over the world. IPL is like a revolution in the shortest format of the game and undoubtedly the biggest franchise league in the world.
The BCCI secretary wants to make this competition bigger than ever as he proposed several changes to the tournament. Jay Shah revealed everything he had planned for the upcoming season of festival of cricket in a very candid way.
IPL 2025: Bigger Than Ever
Firstly, the committee has to decide whether to conduct a mega auction or not. There was a meeting between IPL team owners and BCCI which resulted in very mixed reactions. The board still has not revealed their decision but expect it to come soon.
Secondly, Shah hinted at increased number of games in the upcoming IPL season. We already have a 74 game seasons, and the board might want to increase it to 84 where every team plays each other twice.
The decision rests with BCCI and Shah stated, “Nothing is confirmed. We will collectively decide. We also have to factor in the workload of the players and the window. It’s in the contract but it is up to the BCCI to decide.”
Mega Auction Saga
Shah also opened up about the mega auction saga and stated, “We’ve heard the views of all the franchises. For us, a minority view is as important as the majority opinion. Ultimately the office-bearers (of the BCCI) will decide.
Those who have a good side said there is no need for the big auction and those without a good side wanted the big auction. Continuity is important as shuffling, for the growth of the game.”
