Viral Video: In an extremely tragic incident, a man died after falling into a vat of boiling porridge at Madurai. The shocking moment, captured in a graphic video now circulating on social media, occurred at the Muthumariyammam temple during the Aadi Velli festival.
Tragic Incident at Pazhanganatham Temple
Aadi Velli is one of the important festivals celebrated throughout Tamil Nadu, where rice porridge is normally cooked and distributed in worship of Goddess Amman. Rice porridge would be cooked in big vessels, and in this year’s celebration at Pazhanganatham area of Madurai, the festival met with a tragic turn.
The victim, identified as Muthukumar, was helping with the preparation of the porridge when he suddenly became dizzy and fell into the steaming vessel. People around, as seen in this horrifying scene, were in desperate attempts to rescue the poor fellow. Despite all efforts, they were not able to pull him out as the size of the container was huge and things are really bad. They flipped the entire vessel upside down in a last-ditch effort to reach Muthukumar.
Safety Concerns Highlighted by the Tragedy
Muthukumar was rushed to Rajaji Government Hospital with 65% burns over his body. He succumbed to his injuries within three days despite immediate medication. The video, which the Twitter account Ghar ka kalesh shared, is enraging and shocking people at large.
This incident once more exposes just how tragic the outcome of large events with insufficient safety measures can be and, quite pointedly, how urgently better protocols are needed to avoid this kind of disaster. The death of Muthukumar has left the community in mourning, pondering over what should have been done to ensure greater safety and care while preparing for festivals.
