Novak Djokovic is all set to enter the US Open to defend his title. He won the gold medal in the Paris Olympics 2024 to achieve his lifelong dream. More than a dream, the Summer Games gold medal had become an obsession for him.
After all, it is not every time that Djokovic fails to win something four times in a row. But when the moment arrived, everyone knew it was well worth it. In his own words, those moments were “probably the most intense emotions I have ever had on a tennis court.”
But a question has to be asked, now that the Serbian has won anything, what is next for him? Will his drive to conquer the world simmer down? Will he let the age factor affect him now? Or will he slowly walk into the retirement lane? Well, Djokovic himself answered the question himself and everyone should be scared.
‘I Want To Create History’
The Serbian has the rare opportunity to do something that no one since Roger Federer in 2008 has done. Djokovic has the chance to defend his US title and keep his six-year streak of winning at least one Grand Slam in a season going.
According to the Serb, he is not going to slow down. He might still be intoxicated by the Olympic win, but that has only increased his hunger. He is going to start his US Open defence against Radu Albot on Monday.
“People ask me, “Now that you have won everything with the gold medal, what else is there to win?” I still feel the drive. I still have the competitive spirit. I still want to make more history,” Djokovic said.
Novak Djokovic Wants Grand Slams
The 37-year-old further talked about how much Grand Slams matter to him and how only the best aim for them. “Grand Slams are the pillars of our sport. So, if you don’t get pumped and inspired to play your best tennis at Grand Slams, it’s hard to do that anywhere else.”
