Aadhaar Updates: The government has extended the free Aadhaar updates by a further three months, thus bringing much-needed respite to millions of citizens. The facility to update the Aadhaar card, which was available till September 14, has now been extended to provide extra time to update those Aadhaar cards that are more than 10 years old. This comes as an attempt toward keeping all Aadhaar records updated and fresh.
UIDAI Extends Free Aadhaar Updates Service on myAadhaar Portal
UIDAI gives this information on its Twitter account with a caption, “UIDAI extends free online document upload facility till 14th December 2024; to benefit millions of Aadhaar Number Holders. This free service is available only on myAadhaar portal. UIDAI has been encouraging people to keep documents updated in their Aadhaar.”
You will have to carry a couple of important documents to update your Aadhaar-one, for identity verification, and another for address proof. The commonly accepted documents are the PAN card for identity and the voter ID card for address proof. While there is usually a charge of ₹ 50 at the centre for updating Aadhaar, this service would remain free till June 14, according to UIDAI.
Simple Steps to Update Your Aadhaar Online
The process to update your Aadhaar is pretty simple: log on to the website of UIDAI through your mobile or computer; choose Update Aadhaar and login with an OTP received at your registered mobile number. Then you will select the option “Document Update” and upload a scanned copy of your identity card and address proof from the given list. You will be provided with a request number while uploading these documents, through which you may check the status of your update.
This extension is particularly helpful for those who, because of the fee involved or perhaps due to lack of time, have been putting off the updating of their Aadhaar. This is important in ensuring that at whatever convenient time provided, your Aadhaar information is updated and current for whatever purposes or benefits this ID has entitled you to.
