Punjab News: In a major boost to Punjab’s economy, French dairy giant Danone has announced an investment of ₹200 crore to expand its operations in the state over the next three years. The company, which currently sources 30,000 liters of milk daily from 5,000 farmers across 100 villages, aims to significantly enhance milk production and farmer incomes.
This investment is expected to increase per-animal milk production from the current 10-15 kg to 15-20 kg. Additionally, Danone’s expansion plans aim to boost farmers’ incomes by 25%, further supporting the state’s push towards sustainable and profitable dairy farming.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Punjab’s dairy sector is experiencing rapid development, with an increased focus on sustainability and farmer welfare. The investment by Danone not only strengthens the state’s dairy infrastructure but also promises long-term economic benefits for thousands of farmers engaged in the sector.
This strategic partnership highlights Punjab’s growing role in sustainable farming and the state’s commitment to supporting agricultural innovation and rural development.
Boosting Farmer Incomes and Productivity
Danone’s ₹200 crore investment marks a significant milestone for Punjab’s dairy sector, particularly in improving farmer incomes and animal productivity. By implementing advanced dairy farming techniques and offering training programs, the company aims to double the per-animal milk production, raising it from 10-15 kg to 15-20 kg per day. This will not only enhance the overall milk output but also directly benefit the livelihoods of 5,000 farmers currently associated with Danone.
The goal of increasing farmer incomes by 25% will be achieved through better dairy management practices, access to high-quality feed, and improved veterinary care. This move is set to revolutionize dairy farming in Punjab, making it more efficient and sustainable.
Focus on Sustainable Dairy Farming
With Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasizing sustainable agriculture, this investment aligns with Punjab’s broader goals of environmental conservation and economic growth. Danone’s focus on sustainable farming practices will introduce new techniques that reduce the environmental impact of dairy farming while increasing productivity. These practices include better manure management, water conservation, and promoting the use of renewable energy in dairy farms.
