In a recent update, the Rajasthan education department has announced that schools in the state will shift to winter timings from October 16 this year. This change follows a directive from Education Director Ashish Modi, who issued revised orders for the Shivira Panchang (the academic calendar). Traditionally, schools operate under summer timings until September 30, with the schedule changing from October 1. However, due to the ongoing intense heat and humidity in the region, the department has delayed the transition to winter timings until mid-October.
Weather-Induced Delay
Teachers’ organizations had raised concerns about the persistent heat during the month of September and requested the education director and education minister to delay the shift to winter timings. Taking this into consideration, the department has decided to extend the summer schedule until October 15.
Previous Adjustments Due to Weather
This isn’t the first time such adjustments have been made. In previous years, similar changes were made to accommodate unusual weather patterns. Although the current order sets October 16 as the date for the shift to winter timings, there is a possibility that if the weather conditions remain unchanged, the summer schedule might be extended further into October.
