Uttarakhand News– Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami paid homage to the Bravehearts of the Rampur Tiraha incident, acknowledging their struggles and sacrifices that led to the formation of Uttarakhand as a separate state. Speaking at a public event, he stated, “With their struggles and sacrifices, we attained Uttarakhand State. We will work with dedication towards creating Uttarakhand of their dreams, we will work hard.”
Addressing the issue of reservation, Dhami highlighted the state’s efforts to support the families of those who fought for Uttarakhand’s statehood. “We have brought the Bill for 10% reservation for statehood agitators, and the Bill is in effect. There is a provision for women too,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to equitable growth and honoring the contributions of the statehood movement’s heroes.
Statehood Agitators’ Role in Uttarakhand’s Formation
The Rampur Tiraha incident, which took place on October 2, 1994, marked a significant turning point in the Uttarakhand statehood movement. Several agitators lost their lives during the protests demanding a separate state for the people of the region. Chief Minister Dhami, in his tribute, emphasized the enduring importance of their sacrifice, stating that their memory continues to inspire efforts towards the state’s progress. “We owe our existence to their struggle. Uttarakhand will always honor their legacy,” Dhami said.
Reservation Bill for Statehood Agitators and Women
In line with the state’s commitment to those who participated in the movement, the government introduced a Bill that ensures a 10% reservation for statehood agitators and their families. The reservation extends to government jobs and educational institutions, offering economic and social upliftment. Additionally, Dhami stressed the inclusion of women in the provision, furthering the government’s focus on gender equality and empowerment. “We are committed to securing opportunities for all those who contributed to the creation of Uttarakhand,” Dhami added.
