Tamil Nadu Train Accident: Hours after the Mysuru-Darbhanga Bagmati Express collided with a stationary goods train at Kavaraipettai railway station, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrived at the accident scene to probe potential sabotage. Initial investigations suggest the crash may have been caused by deliberate tampering with the tracks. Sources report that missing bolts and other critical components were found at the site, raising suspicion of foul play.
The NIA’s inquiry also revealed that the tracks near the collision site may have been tampered with using hammers. A similar pattern was observed in a prior incident on September 22 at Ponneri, just 10 kilometers from Kavaraipettai, where signal boxes were reportedly removed.
The collision, which occurred Friday evening, resulted in the passenger train entering a loop line and crashing into the goods train. Nineteen passengers were injured, and a fire broke out in two coaches of the express train, derailing 13 coaches. Railway authorities have since ordered a high-level probe into the accident.
Restoration Efforts Underway
Railway officials announced on Saturday morning that restoration efforts at the accident site would take approximately 16 hours. Passengers stranded due to the crash were transferred to a special train on Saturday morning to resume their journey, while the injured were hospitalized for treatment.
Political Reactions: Rahul Gandhi Criticizes Government
Congress MP Rahul Gandhi condemned the central government following the collision, comparing it to the Balasore accident earlier this year. He criticized the government for its failure to prevent recurring train accidents. “The Mysuru-Darbhanga train accident mirrors the horrific Balasore accident—a passenger train colliding with a stationary goods train. Despite many lives lost in numerous accidents, no lessons are learned. Accountability starts at the top. How many more families must be destroyed before this government wakes up?” Gandhi tweeted.
The incident has reignited debates on railway safety, with opposition leaders calling for stricter measures to prevent such accidents in the future.
