India China Relations: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Tuesday stated that recent diplomatic and military-level discussions with China have resulted in a broad consensus on restoring the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Speaking at an event, Singh mentioned that the consensus includes terms of equal and mutual security, ensuring patrolling and grazing rights in traditional areas for both nations.
Positive Steps Toward Resolution
According to Singh, the disengagement process along the contested border areas is nearing completion. “Our efforts have primarily focused on restoring the ground situation to safeguard mutual security interests,” he noted. This development is a significant step toward de-escalation following previous tensions. Singh expressed optimism, stating that while further progress is needed beyond disengagement, it may require more time to finalize.
Efforts for Sustained Peace
India and China have engaged in continuous discussions at various levels since the Galwan Valley incident in 2020. Singh’s comments reflect both nations’ commitment to a peaceful resolution of boundary issues, emphasizing a cooperative approach. The Minister highlighted India’s determination to secure a stable and secure border, a goal strengthened by the recent diplomatic efforts.
