Kishida, 65, developed cough and mild fever on Saturday night and came up positive in a PCR test, according to a press release by the Cabinet Office. He is currently resting at the PM’s official residence.
On Sunday, coronavirus infections in the nation have stayed near record highs, with 24,780 Covid cases found in Tokyo alone. That’s forcing politicians and health-care officials to reevaluate what steps, if any, are needed to control the outbreak. Kishida is able to continue his duties but will cancel a scheduled trip to Tunisia next weekend.
