Bollywood’s one true diva, Kareena Kapoor Khan, on Monday, celebrated her 40th birthday in an intimate ceremony with her family. Born in a family of artists, Kareena has embarked a unique niche for herself in the Hindi film industry. In her career spanning of two decades, Bebo has given us many iconic characters to cherish.
While Kareena’s Poo taught us to embrace ourselves, her Kalindi made us believe in the power of being fearless. From setting the trends in Bollywood to balancing her personal and professional life, there is a lot what we as humans shall strive to learn from Kareena. As we celebrate her fabulous 40th birthday, let us have a look at some of her best performances.
Jab We Met
This is by far one of the most talked about performances of Kareena’s career. The film directed by Imtiaz Ali starred ex-lovers Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor in pivotal roles. In the film, Kareena played the role of a nonchalant girl Geet whose character can be summed up in the iconic line — “Main apni favourtite hoon”.
Chameli
Kareena was always a heroine, but Chameli established her as an actor in the industry. At a time when her career was at peak and she could have easily bagged a comforting lead role in any of the masala entertainers, she decided to portray the character of a prostitute, which speaks volumes about her willingness to grow as an actor.
Heroine
In Heroine, Kareena played the role of a talented Bollywood actress, Mahi Arora, who suffers from bipolar disorder. She makes insignificant life choices and pays for them in abundance without even learning a bit. As a mean to hinder her existential crisis, she chooses sensationalism to boost her fan following but eventually finds herself alone in the crowd. She then makes the decision to leave everything behind and moves abroad to lead a quiet life. Though the film garnered criticism for its bold portrayal of a female lead, Kareena’s mettle as an actor was once again proved.
Veere di Wedding
In female-centric Veere Di Wedding, Kareena played the role of an outgoing girl Kalindi who is somewhat afraid of commitments. The film also stars Sonam, Swara and Sakshi as her best friends who belong to the upper-crust part of Delhi. The film portrays their journey of lifting each other up as they face their own demons.
Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham
In a film star-studded with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Hrithik Roshan, Kareena Kapoor’s character named Poo definitely stole the limelight. The unapologetic fashionista took us a on a mad ride and we are still in awe of her Pretty Hot and Tempting (PHAT) personality.
