Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse: Rescue Teams Clear 24 Meters of Rubble

Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse

Uttarkashi Tunnel Collapse: In Uttarkashi, where 41 workers are trapped in a collapsed under-construction tunnel, rescue teams successfully removed 24 meters of rubble on Friday evening. The operation faced a temporary setback when debris fell toward the drilling machine during the insertion of the fifth tube.

Workers inside the tunnel were swiftly evacuated:

As a precaution, workers inside the tunnel were swiftly evacuated, causing an hour-long halt in operations.

Despite the pause, workers behind 60 meters of rubble receive supplies through pipes, maintaining constant communication with officials. The drilling machine, facing technical issues, prompted a brief suspension of operations on Friday afternoon. Reports of an American auger machine fault emerged, leading to the dispatch of a similar backup from Indore.

Communication through pipe:

Contrary to technical fault claims, the construction company insisted the machine was operational. Family members and state representatives of the trapped workers engage with them through a communication pipe.

The round-the-clock rescue involves 165 personnel from various agencies, including the National Disaster Response Force and Indo-Tibetan Border Police.
