APTERA Solar Car: A production-ready version of Aptera Motors’ solar-powered automobile has been unveiled by the San Diego, California-based business. For daily short-distance driving, the 700-watt solar panels on this car keep its battery charged with sunlight, negating the need to recharge it. It costs Rs 21,000 and has a range of up to 643 kilometres on a single charge.
Since the 2020 debut of Aptera Motors’ future three-wheeler, the business has made a formal announcement that it is beginning to produce its solar-powered electric vehicle. The vehicle, dubbed the “Launch Edition,” made its debut at a Startup model in San Diego. The debut edition features a sleek teardrop-shaped automobile with a two-tone finish on the two fenders on its front wheels, which is very similar to the car Aptera shown in 2019.

Features
According to the manufacturer, this vehicle can cover up to 400 miles (643 kilometres) on a single charge. All three of this car’s wheels have electric motors, and it has an all-wheel drive system. In under 4 seconds, this car can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour. It has two airbag-equipped passenger seats and a top speed of 162 kilometres per hour. Additionally, the vehicle has a Dynamic Lighting Package, and owners are free to customise the automobile as they see fit.
The EV has a drag coefficient of 0.13, making it more aerodynamic than the Mercedes-Benz EQXX, which is at 0.17. The interior, which has two screens and a steering wheel up front, has a basic and clean style like the exterior.
Design
Regarding the exterior, this car’s ultra-light/strong composite body, which offers total strength while keeping the weight low, has been utilised. The car is now more aerodynamic, and having three wheels increases mileage while reducing friction. LED turn indicators can also be seen above the front two wheels, in addition to LED strip lights at the front and back of the vehicle and its sleek teardrop design.
Regarding the interior, it has document storage, climate control, window defrost, two cup holders, three armrests, and a centre console for cabin storage. The music system in this car includes two speakers, two tweeters, and a sub-woofer in addition to Bluetooth connectivity. On the dashboard of the automobile, we can see the 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system and an entirely digital instrument cluster. Additionally, the cabin has two sun visors, a USB charging port, and an accessories rack.
Battery and Charging
Car owners may also plug in to charge. Although oddly lacking the capacity to connect to DC fast-charging stations, Aptera Launch Edition vehicles will include Tesla-standard charging connections. When plugged into a Level 2 charger, Aptera predicts that the vehicle will have a driving range of up to 57 miles per hour or 91 kilometres. For onboard charging, a charger with a 40–60 kW capacity is offered.
This car’s hood contains a 700-watt solar panel, which allows sunlight to charge the battery. This vehicle can cover up to 40 miles (64 kilometres) on solely solar power. You don’t even need to charge the car’s battery if you only need to travel up to 60 kilometres every day. According to the business, more panels will be added in the future, extending the driving range even more.
