Hyundai Exter: The New Micro SUV to Shake Up the Indian Market with Global Debut and Competitive Price, all you need to know

Hyundai Exter: Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is all set to launch its newest offering, the Hyundai Exter, in the Indian market in the third quarter of this year. The micro SUV will make its global debut in the coming months and is expected to compete against the Tata Punch, a popular micro SUV in India. Positioned below the Venue compact SUV, the Exter is expected to be a game-changer in the micro SUV segment.

Design and Platform

The Hyundai Exter will use the brand’s most recent design language and get ideas from the Casper. Underpinned by the same platform as the Grand i10 Nios and Aura, the Exter will be equipped with a 1.2L NA petrol engine developing around 84 PS and 113 Nm. The powertrain will be linked with a five-speed manual transmission as standard or a five-speed AMT. However, the chances of Hyundai offering an expansive range with the Exter do exist, and it is expected that a 1.0L three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine kicking out 120 PS and 172 Nm will likely be utilized.

Features and Price

The Hyundai Exter is expected to have several commonalities with the Grand i10 Nios in terms of features. The interior will likely offer a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, automatic climate control, steering wheel with mounted controls, multiple airbags, semi-digital instrument console, adjustable headrests, push-button start/stop, and more. The exterior of the Exter will feature an upright grille section with a split headlamp cluster, a prominent grille section, air intake on the bumper, slightly raked front windshield, 15-inch alloy wheels in the top-end variants, and wraparound tail lamps.

The Exter is expected to have a wheelbase length of around 3.8 metres, in a similar fashion to the Tata Punch. The heavily localized platform should help in keeping the costs competitive, and it could have a starting price of Rs. 6 lakh, going all the way up to Rs. 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

Competition

The Hyundai Exter will take on the base and mid variants of the Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger, which have been popular micro SUVs in India. However, the Exter is expected to be longer and more practical with higher ground clearance, making it a suitable choice for those who prioritize comfort and convenience over other factors.

With its latest design language, top-notch features, and competitive pricing, the Exter has all the makings of a game-changer in the micro SUV segment.
