All about the new Kia and Hyundai engine
A respectable portion of the Creta, Seltos, and Carens’ sales have been credited to the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol engine’s 140 horsepower and 242 Nm of torque. Contrary to the outgoing 1.4-litre engine, which was entirely imported, the new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine will be built in India. As a result, the new engine will have a cost advantage, which will likely result in lower prices for the models that will use it.
On models like the Hyundai i30 and Kia Ceed, the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbo-petrol engine from Hyundai and Kia’s global stable is available. This unit has a 48V mild hybrid system and can reach a maximum torque of 253Nm and 160hp. The mild hybrid technology, however, won’t be made available in India, according to our sources. This engine is available internationally with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
As a result, the new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine will be more powerful than the previous one, with power and torque increasing by 20hp and 11Nm, respectively. It’s significant that the 1.5-liter turbo-petrol engine will give the Creta and Seltos more power than the Taigun and Kushaq, which are now the most powerful in the segment with their 150-horsepower, 1.5-liter TSI engines.
What gearbox options Hyundai and Kia will provide with their cars is still unknown. The Seltos and Carens currently come in 6-speed manual and 7-speed DCT configurations, however, the Creta turbo only offers the 7-speed DCT. When the Creta and Seltos facelifts arrive in India, the new engine is anticipated to make its debut.
