Mahindra Thar: A Jammu and Kashmir court on Friday sentenced an owner to six months in prison for adding an unauthorised siren on his SUV. Section 52 of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988 (MV Act) is specifically violated by the modifications. [UT of Jammu & Kashmir v. Adil Farooq Bhat].
A hard top, larger wheels and tyres, LED lighting, as well as a high vehicle siren are among the additions applied to this particular previous-generation Mahindra Thar. According to the court’s order, the vehicle’s construction has been entirely changed from the position it was in when it was first listed on the registration certificate (RC).
The court ordered the owner of Thar to sign a Rs. 2 lakh bond
Due to the fact that the offence does not include moral turpitude and that the offender has never been convicted before, the accused was granted probation under the Probation of Offenders Act. Instead, the court ordered the owner of Thar to sign a Rs 2 lakh bond promising to maintain peace and good behaviour for a period of two years. The accused would be given the suggested penalty if they disobeyed the bond.

“The RTO Kashmir at Srinagar is directed to remove the car siren and all the modifications those were done in contravention to the provisions of Motor Vehicle Act and the rules made thereunder and restore the vehicle (Thar) to its original position as specified in the Registration Certificate (RC) of the vehicle.”
