Suzuki Jimny EV: Anyone who keeps up with Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon news will be aware that the SUV is getting an electrified makeover. The luxurious off-roader will be built on a durable body-on-frame basis and will also come in an ICE version. The Suzuki Jimny is an economical off-road vehicle that resembles a small G-Wagon and will be available in an all-electric model for the European market.
Three of Suzuki’s key markets—Japan, India, and Europe—have been the subject of its electrification projects. The Jimny can be seen in outline with the exact slatted grille when one looks closely at the automaker’s designs for Europe. So, we think the well-liked off-roader will be equipped with an all-electric drivetrain.
What we expect from the Suzuki Jimny EV
There have been no more specifics revealed about the electric off-roader that Suzuki has leaked, other than the shape. The electric version should still maintain its iconic appearance while adding a few contemporary elements. Furthermore, given that this vehicle is intended for off-road use, dual motors will be driving each of the four wheels. What we desire is that it be built using a frame-based design, which will provide it with the durability needed for an off-road vehicle.
Given that this is most likely being marketed to consumers looking to grab a toy from the lower end of the pricing range, the Jimny doing donuts like the upcoming electric G-Wagon or crab walking like the Hummer EV is too much of a wishlist. But we do wish it had some extra magic to make its off-roading performance at least as good as the ICE variant.
Launch in India
No, not at this time, at least. Only Suzuki’s proposal for the European market makes mention of this specific Jimny shape. So, certainly, it might take some time before the electric off-roader comes here.
The larger five-door Jimny model made its premiere in the world at the Auto Expo 2023, and pre-launch reservations are currently being taken in India. In a few months, its prices will likely be revealed.
