Range anxiety is a serious issue, but several automakers are introducing electric vehicles and SUVs with long ranges as alternatives. Top 5 Electric Vehicles to be launched in 2023
Citroen eC3
The electric Citroen C3 will be generally similar to the ICE-powered model, with the exception of a charging outlet on the front fender and a driving controller in place of a gear lever.
Customers who purchase the e-C3 from Citroen will receive a 3.3kW onboard AC charger as well as support for CCS2 fast charging. Additionally, it will be available with additional equipment than the C3, including automatic climate control, rear wipers, and washers.
Mahindra XUV 400 EV
The eXUV300 concept car displayed at the 2020 Auto Expo served as design inspiration for the XUV400. The EV shares a similar appearance with its ICE sibling due to its XUV300 foundation but can be distinguished by its now closed-off grille, arrowhead-shaped inlays, and copper-coloured accents all over. The XUV300 must stay below the 4-meter barrier to be eligible for a lower tax category, however, the EV has no such restriction and thus measures 4.2m. This results in an extra 121 litres of boot room in the EV.
The interior is completely black with copper accents, and the drive selector, which takes the place of the conventional gear lever, is the biggest alteration. Although the 7.0-inch touchscreen is still present, Mahindra’s AdrenoX software now powers it.
The EV is powered by a 39.4kWh battery pack with an MIDC-rated range of up to 456km and a 150hp, 310Nm electric motor. It claims to have a sprint time of 8.3 seconds from 0 to 100 kph and a top speed of 150 kph.
MG Motor Air EV
The Wuling Air EV, which is already offered in some regions, including Indonesia, will serve as the foundation for the small two-door urban runabout EV. With a wheelbase of 2,010mm and a height of 2.9 metres, the Air EV is 400mm shorter than the Maruti Suzuki Alto. The Bajaj Qute, which is categorised as a quadricycle, is the only item that is smaller.
Hyundai Ioniq 5
The Ioniq 5 will serves as Hyundai’s signature model. It shares a basis with the Kia EV6, although the Ioniq 5 will be put together in India as opposed to the EV6, which is imported as a CBU.
While it has 58kW and 77.4kW battery packs globally, India will receive a 72.2kWh battery pack with a claimed range of 631 kilometres and will only be available in real wheel drive configuration. The variant built for India is rated at 217 horsepower and 350 Nm of torque.
Given that it will be locally built, the Ioniq 5’s pricing will probably be lower than that of the EV6 by a substantial margin. It is anticipated to cost less than Rs 50 lakh.
Volkswagen ID.4
Volkswagen has announced that it is testing the MEB-based ID.4 electric vehicle in India, which will be the company’s first EV here. The high-performance ID.4 GTX vehicles, which has one motor on each axle at the front and rear, are most likely to arrive in India. The motors’ combined output is 299 horsepower and 460 Nm of torque. It can sprint from 0 to 100 kph in 6.2 seconds and has a top speed cap of 180 kph.
