Top 5 Most selling cars in India 2022: The four-wheeler market had a decent year in 2022. The previous year may have benefited from disappointing sales brought on by COVID-19, but things are very different this year. Although the December 2022 sales figures have not yet been released, a review of the numbers thus far indicates that manufacturers are already witnessing growth from the numbers from the previous year. Maruti Suzuki still rules the top-5 position, but they have slipped a few spots.

1. Maruti Suzuki WagonR
Vehicle sales: 2,07,136 The Maruti Suzuki WagonR, which has so far sold 2.07 lakh vehicles, finally takes the top rank. This is a 12 per cent increase over the overall total for 2021 of 1,83,851 units. The WagonR was also updated back in February, but just with minor outward changes including new blacked-out alloy wheels and interior colour tweaks. On the other hand, the engine has been revised, and the WagonR now features both the 1.2-litre engine from the new Baleno, Swift and Dzire as well as the 1-litre engine from the Celerio. The Maruti Suzuki WagonR has a starting price of Rs. 5.44 lakh.
2. Maruti Suzuki Baleno
1,68,733 vehicles were sold. With sales of 1.68 lakh units, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno is in second place. These figures are only slightly less than the year-to-date total of 1,72,237 units that 2021 achieved when it occupied the third spot on the sales chart. Back in February, the Maruti Suzuki Baleno had an update that included new interiors, external style, and tech and safety equipment. A 1.2-litre engine with 89 hp of maximum power and 113 Nm of maximum torque powers the brand-new Baleno. A long range of new technology features is included in the improvements to the 2018 Baleno, including a new 9-inch freestanding Smartplay Pro+ infotainment system, a revised steering wheel, support for Amazon Alexa, and support for voice commands and linked vehicle technology from Suzuki. The starting price is Rs. 8.28 lakh.
3. Maruti Suzuki Swift
sold 1,64,363 automobiles When it comes to the top three, Maruti Suzuki consistently dominates the list. The Maruti Suzuki Swift, which sold 1.64 million units between January and November, is at number three. Sales totalled 1,75,052 units in 2021, ranking it second overall, however, we could yet see this number being surpassed by December. Late next year, the Maruti Suzuki will receive a generational overhaul. The Swift is anticipated to include new hybrid technology, just like the Dzire. Recently, an ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) vehicle and a new Swift Sport were seen testing in India. This car is thought to have been imported from a right-hand drive country. It will be the most powerful Swift variant available, equipped with ADAS technology, assuming it does make it to India. The Maruti Suzuki Swift currently has a 1.2-litre petrol engine that can generate a maximum of 89 horsepower and a maximum torque of 113 Nm. At the moment, prices start at Rs 5.91 lakh.
4. Tata Nexon
SUV sales totalled 1,56225. The Tata Nexon made the biggest jump in the sales rankings so far, moving up from the tenth place in 2021 to number four this year. Tata has also been able to increase its sales by about 44% from the 1,08,577 total sales in 2021. Remember that December’s sales are already not included in the 1.56 lakh Nexon units that have been sold so far this year. The EV and the EV Max have helped the Tata Nexon perform incredibly well as well. In addition to electric drivetrains, the Nexon offers both petrol and diesel engine choices. The 1.5-litre turbo-diesel cranks out 110 horsepower of power and 260 Nm of torque, while the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol can produce 120 hp of maximum power and 170 Nm of peak torque. The Global NCAP rating organisation gave the Tata Nexon the first five-star safety certification for an automobile built in India. The starting price is Rs 7.69 lakh.
5. Maruti Suzuki Alto
1,53,900 vehicles sold The Alto, the cheapest vehicle offered by Maruti Suzuki, placed fifth this time around with sales of around 1.54 lakh units. In terms of the number for 2021, the business sold 1,66,233 units. The hatchback should increase in size as long as Maruti Suzuki sells at least 13,000 more units. The Alto K10 was newly introduced this year with updated styling and a larger engine. The vehicle now has the same 1-litre engine that powers Maruti’s Celerio, the company’s other tiny hatchback. The 998cc Dualjet engine’s highest output is 89 Nm of peak torque and 67 hp of maximum power. There is also a CNG version available. Starting prices are Rs 3.99 lakh.
