Toyota Innova Hycross vs Rivals: The long-awaited Innova Hycross prices across the nation have finally been disclosed by Toyota. Customers can reserve the new model for a nominal fee of Rs 50,000, and it is priced between Rs 18.30 lakh and Rs 28.97 lakh. The current Innova Crysta, which will also get an upgrade in February 2023, will be sold alongside the new model. The new Hycross benefits from the segment’s first powerful hybrid engine and have a more crossover-like appearance than an MPV.

The 2023 Innova Hycross doesn’t have a direct competitor in the market, but due to its aggressive pricing, it competes with more expensive Kia Carnival MPVs and 3-row SUVs like the Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari. In this piece, we evaluate the new Innova Hycross against its competitors in terms of cost, dimensions, and engine features.

Toyota Innova Hycross vs Rivals Specifications

The only vehicles with possibilities for petrol engines are the Hycross and the XUV700. The latter, however, is also offered with a diesel engine option. On the other hand, the Innova Hycross is the only car in its class with a powerful hybrid drivetrain.

The 2.0L NA petrol and 2.0L petrol with a powerful hybrid system are the two engine options for the new Innova Hycross. The powerful hybrid engine produces a combined output of 186PS and 206Nm and is mated to an e-CVT, while the former is capable of 174PS and 205Nm with CVT. The hybrid version of the MPV is said to have a theoretical tank range of 1097 kilometres and an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 21.1 kmpl.

The 200PS, 2.0L turbo petrol and the 185PS, 2.2L turbo diesel are the two engine options for the XUV700. There are two different transmission options: a 6-speed torque converter automatic and a 6-speed manual. AWD configuration is also offered for the diesel variant. According to claims, the diesel variant has a mileage of 15.5 kmpl and a 930-kilometre range on a full tank.

One 170PS, 2.0L turbodiesel engine with 6-speed manual and 6-speed torque converter gearboxes is offered for the Safari. This front-wheel-drive SUV is advertised as having a 14.08 kmpl fuel economy and a theoretical tank range of 700 kilometres. The 200PS/440Nm, 2.2L turbo-diesel engine that powers the Carnival is mated to an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission. This large MPV gets 13.9 kmpl and has an 834-kilometre range on a full tank of petrol.

Dimensions compared

The new Hycross has a wheelbase of 2,850mm, dimensions of 4,755mm in length, 1,850mm in width, and 1,795mm in height. It features a 185mm ground clearance. It is available with 7 or 8 seats. Compared to the XUV700 and the Safari, the new model is taller and longer. Toyota is also able to increase interior space because of the longer wheelbase.

The Mahindra XUV700 has a wheelbase of 2750mm and measures 4695mm long, 1890mm wide, and 1755mm tall. It is available with a 5 or 7-seat layout and has a 200mm ground clearance. In contrast, the Tata Safari has dimensions of 4,661mm in length, 1894mm in width, 1786mm in height, and a 2741mm wheelbase. The SUV is offered with a 6- or 7-seat arrangement and has 205mm ground clearance.

In every way, the Kia Carnival is larger than the Innova Hycross. The Carnival is positioned in a higher market and has a spacious cabin. Compared to the Hycross, it is 135mm wider and 360mm longer. The Carnival has a wheelbase of 3050mm, which is 210mm longer than the Hycross. This is a major difference.

Prices compared

The price range for the Hycross petrol lineup is between Rs 18.30 lakh and Rs 19.20 lakh. The powerful hybrid version, on the other hand, starts at Rs 24.01 lakh for the VX model and rises to Rs 28.97 lakh for the highest spec ZX (O).

The base model of the Safari SUV costs Rs 15.45 lakh, while the highest-spec model costs Rs 23.76 lakh. The entry-level model of the XUV700 diesel series costs Rs 16 lakh, and the most expensive variant costs Rs 24.95 lakh. Prestige, Limousine, and Limousine Plus are the three variations of the Carnival, and they range in price from Rs 30.99 lakh to Rs 35.49 lakh.
