Upcoming SUVs in 2023: Four car releases are scheduled for this month as we start a new fiscal year, two of which are at entirely different ends of the market. Maruti and MG will introduce the Fronx compact crossover and the Comet EV in the mass-market segment, respectively, while Mercedes-AMG GT63 S e-performance hybrid and Lamborghini Urus S will make their market debuts in the top performance category. What to anticipate from each is listed below.
Maruti Suzuki Fronx
The Fronx is a small coupe-crossover that is based on the Baleno hatchback. It is significant because it brings back a turbo-petrol engine to Maruti’s lineup after the Baleno RS was discontinued. The new 6-speed torque converter automatic or the 100hp, 1.0-liter turbo powerplant will be available with either a 5-speed manual transmission or MT. With a 5-speed MT and AMT transmission, Maruti’s tried-and-true 90hp, 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine will also be available. The Fronx will be offered through Nexa shops and will share many interior components with the Baleno. By the second week of April, the price announcement is anticipated, and it is anticipated to fall between Rs 8 lakh to Rs 11 lakh.
Upcoming SUVs in 2023: Mercedes-AMG GT63 S e-performance
The first plug-in hybrid from AMG and the most potent Mercedes-Benz production vehicle are both the GT63 S e-performance 4-door coupe. A 204-hp electric motor is paired with a 639-hp, 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine under the bonnet. They generate 843 horsepower and 1,400 Nm of torque when combined. Also, it can travel 12 kilometres on electricity alone and has a top speed of 130 kilometres per hour. Also, it has AMG-specific appearance, including a spoiler on the boot lid, a Panamericana grille, big gaping air intakes on the front bumper, and custom alloy wheels. Expect it to cost more over Rs 3 crore (ex-showroom).
Lamborghini Urus S
The Lamborghini Urus S, a super SUV, will come after a super sedan. It will sit underneath the track-focused Urus Performante and is designed to be a more comfortable version of the Urus. The suspension is the key distinction between the Performante and the S; the former has set coil springs while the later has adjustable air suspension. The Performante’s 4.0-liter, V8 twin-turbo petrol engine, which produces 666 horsepower and is paired with an 8-speed torque converter, is the same engine that powers the Urus S. Moreover, the S keeps the standard off-road modes of Sand, Snow, and Mud, unlike the Performante which now has a Rally option. Expect Urus S to be priced below the Performante, which has an MSRP of Rs 4.22 crore (ex-showroom, India).
Upcoming SUVs in 2023: MG Comet EV
After the ZS EV, the Comet EV will be MG’s second fully electric car in India, however it will only be marketed as an urban commuter. It has a very unique appearance due to its small size, two-door body style, and futuristic design elements. The four-seater interior will be tech-heavy and not at all entry-level; instead, expect high-quality materials and a tonne of standard features. It is anticipated to have a 20–25 kWh battery and a 250–350 km driving range. Crucially, Tata AutoComp will supply the battery locally, and power output is anticipated to be around 50kW. (68hp). It is anticipated to cost more than Rs 10 lakh (ex-showroom).
