Apple’s decade-long Electric Car Project Abandoned

On February 27, Vice President Kevin Lynch and Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams revealed the decision internally, shocking roughly 2,000 project workers.

Under executive John Giannandrea, a large number of workers from the Special Projects Group (SPG), which is part of the car team, will move to the artificial intelligence division and concentrate on generative AI projects.

The precise number of layoffs is still unknown, although several hundred hardware engineers and vehicle designers on the Apple car team might be able to apply for jobs in other Apple teams.

Apple and AI

Analysts claim that Apple‘s decision to refocus on generative AI rather than electric vehicles is consistent with its long-term strategic objectives. Apple wants to take advantage of potentially larger revenue streams by shifting resources to artificial intelligence (AI) rather than the fiercely competitive and capital-intensive auto industry.
