In a bid to limit the vehicular movement and avoid traffic jams amid the COVID-19 curbs, Mumbai police have directed that vehicles engaged in emergency and essential services will have to sport colour-coded stickers, city police commissioner said.
Which are different colour-coded stickers?
In a video, Hemant Nagrale, Police Commissioner informed that a self-sticking colour-coded policy will be implemented in three colours- red, green and yellow.
What each colour means?
Red stickers have to be pasted on vehicles carrying doctors, nurses, medical staff, medicines, ambulances, test kits and all medical equipment.
Vehicles transporting essential food items like vegetables, grocery, dairy products, fruits, bakery items and others would bear green stickers.
Yellow stickers would be used by the rest of vehicles engaged in providing essential services like government employees in BMC, BEST, MTNL and the media among others.
Where stickers will be provided?
The stickers, which should be six-inch circles, will be made available at ‘nakabandi’ points and toll nakas for free, Mr. Nagrale said, adding that people found misusing the stickers will be strictly prosecuted.
“If you fall under these categories, please fix the sticker on your vehicle and come out on the road,” he said.
Mumbai Police on colour-coded stickers:
Hemant Nagrale said that only the designated persons and authorities can use the dedicated colour-coded stickers on their vehicles.
“If you fall under any of these categories, then please fix the sticker on your vehicle,” Nagrale said in a video message.
The commissioner also warned against the misuse of these stickers. These stickers will be provided free of charge by the Mumbai Police.
Mumbai recorded 8811 new cases of Covid-19 on Saturday taking the tally in the city to 571,018. The death toll also crossed the 12,000-mark with 51 fresh fatalities. Out of the total active cases, 87,369 are in Mumbai, including 8,834 in the last 24 hours.
