Jeep Wrangler 4xe PHEV SUV: A recall programme for Jeep’s Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid models in the US has been announced, impacting 62909 units. Due to what the manufacturer refers to as a lack of communication, the petrol engine in these PHEV SUVs that are impacted is prone to shutting down. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the affected SUVs may experience an engine shutdown condition as a result of the software diagnostic system’s responses to defects when contact is lost. Such instances of power loss while driving pose a significant risk. Jeep has also ordered a nationwide stop-sale of the Wrangler 4xe in the interim due to this issue.
Why it was recalled?
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe PHEV SUVs that are affected were produced between 2 September 2020 and 17 August 2022. The non-hybrid Jeep Wrangler, on the other hand, is not covered by this recall campaign, according to the company. The company has already received 196 warranty claims and 65 field reports as a result of the issue, it added. In addition, there have been reports of two collisions and one injury that may be related to the Jeep Wrangler 4xe PHEVs’ flaw.
What about the affected owners?
Although the particular cause of the issue is yet unclear, the automaker’s recall suggests that the solution would be quite simple. According to Jeep, the dealers will update the calibration software in the auxiliary hybrid control processor, hybrid control pressure, and transmission control module. Starting on January 12, 2023, owners of the impacted automobiles will get a formal email from the Stellantis-owned company. Additionally, customers who have already paid to have the issue with their SUVs fixed will be able to get a refund.
