Toyota Hyryder vs Maruti Grand Vitara: With the launch of these two new entrants, the rivalry in the mid-sized SUV category in India is expected to heat up. While the Grand Vitara is scheduled to go on sale soon, the Hyryder has already been formally introduced. Both SUVs are members of the Toyota-Suzuki alliance and have the same engines. Read on to know what distinguishes them from each other?
What are the variants available?
The Grand Vitara will come equipped with a mild hybrid powertrain and be offered in four grades: Sigma, Delta, Zeta, and Alpha. Zeta Plus and Alpha Plus, the two additional variations, both have powerful hybrid drivetrains. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, on the other hand, is offered in E, S, G, and V trims with a hybrid option, while the S, G, and V derivatives have a potent hybrid powertrain.
Exterior and Designing of SUVs
Despite similar profiles, minor detailing on the design is what sets them apart. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder has a large trapezoidal bottom grille, a curving bumper, and an upper grille made of crystal acrylic. The SUV comes equipped with LED projector headlamps with DRLs. The roof is blacked out, and the OVRMs are black with silver roof rails. C-shaped LED taillights and a dark chrome trim on the back mark the beginning of the rear section. The SUV has 17-inch alloy wheels.
On the other hand, the intelligent electric hybrid variants of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara have a higher bonnet design and a “Fervent Dark Crome” finish on the grille. The grille has a “Rich Chrome” finish on the progressive smart hybrid models. The SUV houses three-element LED DRLs with integrated turn indicators. The Grand Vitara’s strong wheel arches and sweeping shoulder line highlight its SUV credentials on the side. Additionally, the Maruti Suzuki model rides on 17-inch alloy wheels.
Interiors and feel
The interior feature lists of the Grand Vitara and Urban Cruiser Hyryder are comparable. Both SUVs have similar-looking AC vents and steering wheels. Even the primary console has the same appearance. The interior colour schemes of the two SUVs, however, set them apart.
Both SUVs share the same mechanical components. They have a 1.5-liter clever hybrid engine that can be tweaked to produce 91 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and 122 Nm of torque between 4,400 and 4,800 rpm when running on simply gasoline. The unit’s maximum output when coupled with an electric motor is 114 horsepower.
A 1.5-liter K-series engine with progressive smart hybrid technology is also available; it has a maximum output of 102 bhp and a peak torque of 136 Nm. There is an all-wheel drive option available on the versions with this engine.
Price
Both SUVs are available for booking. Toyota has revealed the prices for the top four Hyryder variants, which range from Rs 15.11 to 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India), but Maruti Suzuki has not yet done the same for the Grand Vitara. However, it is anticipated to follow a similar pattern.
