Sources Says…

According to sources, Volkswagen has expressed interest in collaborating with carmakers in India. The company is willing to give up its entire ownership of Skoda Auto Volkswagen if there are significant benefits in platform sharing and components procurement. According to a source close to the automaker, “Key executives from Germany are open to having conversations with the right business groups to explore an alliance in the country to share the significant investment needed to transition from ICE to EV vehicle platforms in the future.”

In contrast, the Group has made it clear that it will pour some huge investments in local manufacturing of electric vehicles for both the Indian and international markets in the second part of this decade. The firm is counting on developing a vehicle portfolio based on the MQB A0 IN platform for both Skoda and Volkswagen.

Skoda in Talks With Tata Motors, Mahindra and MG Motors

As the automaker has strong plans to shift towards EVs, Skoda India has been seen engaged in having conversations with some of the major automakers leading the EV space in India. Earlier, Volkswagen India had talks with Tata Motors and MG Motors to persuade these companies to share their Electric vehicle architecture. In recent days, the automaker has been having conversations with Mahindra and Mahindra to know if there is any possibility of Mahindra sharing the MEB21 compact EV architecture.
