Android Runtime update: Google to soon reduce App launch speed by 30% to compete with iOS, what you need to know

Android Runtime update

Android Runtime update: The speed at which an app loads is crucial to how well a user uses a device. When it comes to the speed at which apps open and close, iPhones and iPads have always been in the lead and are better optimised. A backend plugging called Android Runtime (ART) in fact controls how quickly Android apps load. Google significantly enhanced Android Runtime with the release of ART 14. This upgrade will speed up app launches by 30%, according to a blog post published by Google.

From Google on Android Runtime update

Google stated in a post on the Android Developers Blog that routine ART upgrades offer a tonne of features to Android devices, including security improvements, better memory usage, faster execution times, and more. The recent switch to a modular structure has made it possible for Google to update ART through the Play Store rather than having to regularly roll out full system upgrades, which was previously difficult to do because it was difficult to update ART independently of the rest of the OS.

App launch speed will be reduced by 30 percent

Google further asserted that runtime and compiler optimisations brought forth by the most recent ART 13 upgrade reduced app starting times by “up to 30% on some devices.” Hundreds of millions of devices, including all Android 12+ smartphones and tablets, now use the same core OpenJDK APIs thanks to recent revisions. The nicest feature of the upcoming ART version is that it won’t be restricted to Android 14-powered gadgets; you might therefore receive it on your phone even if it runs Android 12 or 13.
