Apple: Will the MacBook ever get FaceID? Rumours explained

Apple FaceID

Apple FaceID: Apple has not yet added Face ID security to its MacBook notebooks, despite the fact that the iPhone and iPad have it. Despite the business giving its more recent Apple Silicon-powered MacBook computers a display notch, Face ID is not present. However, recent patent applications reveal that Apple is actively working on Face ID for its laptops, concentrating on a “Light Recognition Module for Determining a User of a Computing Device.”

Light Recognition Module

Apple has been given a patent (number 11727718) titled “Light Recognition Module for determining a User of a Computing Device,” as reported by Patently Apple. The benefits of implementing Face ID in their laptops to increase security are highlighted in the patent. The patent describes how sensitive information that shouldn’t be compromised can be handled by notebooks.

Apple FaceID: Improving safety and security

Apple suggests adding an authentication method, like Face ID, to the notebook’s security safeguards to prevent unauthorised access to this data.
In-depth technical explanations are provided in the patent, which specifically describes how Face ID works on current Apple products. A light emitter projects ,a specified pattern of light and a light detector picks up this pattern when it is reflected off of a user in the light pattern recognition module.

Why does MacBooks does not have FaceID?

Apple has previously received a patent for Face ID technology, particularly for notebooks. Apple has already acquired a patent for facial recognition software for Macs and other devices in 2016. Face ID was added to iPhones and iPads, but despite having a notch presently, it was never added to MacBooks. Everyone questioned why, although having a notch, the 2021 M1 Pro and Pro Max MacBook Pro models did not have Face ID. Touch ID, according to the business, is a better choice because it is more practical for laptops since users’ hands are already on the keyboard.

Will the MacBook ever get FaceID?

Although a patent may be granted, there is no assurance that the technology will be used in the final product. As of right now, the company has not confirmed if FaceID will be implemented into MacBooks. Furthermore, there is no sign that this technology will be integrated very soon.
