Weaker techniques, like self-declaration of age, online payment methods that don’t require identification, and disclaimers or warnings, won’t be able to meet the requirements of the regulator’s new guidance, it stated.

CEO of the media regulator Ofcom Melanie Dawes explained that the proposal for facial age estimation involves analysing a viewer’s traits using artificial intelligence. That would probably need you to take and publish a selfie with a gadget. The watchdog added credit card checks and picture identification matching to its proposed guidelines, which would require users to upload a photo ID to establish their age, such as a passport or driver’s licence. Open banking was another recommendation, in which customers agree to let their bank share information with internet porn sites to verify they are at least 18 years old.
