Design

One of the things that sets apart the Nothing Phone (1) from other smartphones on the market is undoubtedly its unique appearance. With its flat screen, rounded corners, and twin camera sensors, the basic design would resemble the iPhone 13 quite a bit; nevertheless, neither Apple nor any other major phone manufacturer’s products have an array of LED lights on the back. By the way, this isn’t just for show; special lighting patterns show who is calling, and there is a bar that displays the charge level while the device is recharging.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s design didn’t particularly wow us. One reason is the object’s sheer size, which is large, wide, and bulky, making it difficult to handle with one hand. Another perplexing choice that did not win us over to the product was the absence of a specialised camera module, leaving the sensors bare and exposed.

Display

The 6.55-inch OLED display on the Nothing phone (1) is crammed with high-end functionality. Because it supports HDR10+ and 10-bit colour depth, it should be vibrant and immersive, and its adaptable refresh rate of 60–120 Hz should make it attractive to the eye. The panel is composed of Corning Gorilla Glass and has a 1080p resolution, so it should be durable.

Although the S22 Ultra’s display is bigger than the Nothing Phone’s at 6.8 inches and is similarly loaded with fantastic features like HDR10+ and an adaptive 120Hz refresh rate, there are several areas where it surpasses the Nothing Phone (1). For starters, it boasts a screen with a resolution of 1440 x 3088 pixels, which is significantly higher, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus Plus, the most recent version of the protective screen, which should be quite scratch- and damage-resistant.

Performance

The Snapdragon 778G+ processor, which is in Qualcomm’s upper-mid range and offers 5G connectivity, powers the Nothing Phone (1). Although we haven’t had a chance to test it out yet, we anticipate it to give respectable performance levels that are a notch below the finest flagship CPUs now available.

When it comes to the chipset, there are two different versions of the S22 Ultra, with some using the Exynos 2200 and others using the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. In our tests, we discovered that the latter of them produced greater performance levels, albeit both were capable of producing very high benchmark scores and outstanding gaming performance.
