OnePlus 11 vs iPhone 14 Pro: An insightful comparison you can rely on, read before you make up your mind

OnePlus 11 vs iPhone 14 Pro: The OnePlus 11 is one of the year’s first major Android phone launches. The Apple iPhone 14 Pro has cutting-edge hardware, stunning styling, and some very capable cameras, all of which we attributed to it when it was released late last year. These two phones aren’t direct competitors, and the Android vs. iOS debate means they’re aimed at different audiences – but what if you’re stuck in the middle and can’t decide who wins?

Design

The design of the iPhone 14 Pro has barely changed from the previous generation, with a slightly thicker body but the same straight sides, flat screen, and off-center camera module. The only real differences are the new colour options and the front-facing Dynamic Island selfie camera cutout. It’s a fantastic-looking handset that’s a study in minimalism and feels every bit as premium as you’d expect.

OnePlus has taken things to the next level, using medical grade stainless steel to distinguish its ‘black hole-inspired’ rear camera module. It sits on top of either glossy Eternal Green or matte frosted Titan Black glass, making it abundantly clear that you’re carrying the phone of the year. To tell the iPhone is a 2022 model, you’ll need to pay close attention.

Display

The OnePlus 11 has the advantage in terms of sheer size and screen resolution. Its 6.7in panel has a resolution of 32161440, while the 6.1in iPhone 14 Pro has a resolution of 25561179. Both are OLEDs, but OnePlus uses AMOLED technology while Apple uses XDR OLED. The latter is much brighter, reaching a maximum of 2000 nits, whereas the OnePlus is limited to 1300. This means that the iPhone wins in the outdoors and when playing HDR content, though the OnePlus’ larger screen may be more comfortable for on-the-go viewing.

Performance

With the name “Pro,” you’d expect the latest iPhone to deliver on performance – and it does, thanks to Apple’s in-house A16 Bionic CPU. It’s designed specifically for iOS, is extremely fast, and is also extremely energy efficient. It will deliver a perfectly smooth experience whether you’re gaming, shooting 4K video, or simply scrolling through social feeds, despite using only 6GB of RAM.

However, the OnePlus 11 isn’t far behind. In fact, it outperforms the Apple phone in many synthetic benchmarks and performs equally well in games. This is the fastest Android phone available right now, and with up to 16GB of RAM, you can multitask to your heart’s content. It’s not quite as battery-friendly, but you’ll still manage an entire day of typical use without having to plug in.

Battery and charging

On the battery front, Apple always manages to do a lot with a little, and the iPhone 14 Pro is no exception. Although 3200mAh may appear small, it is sufficient for all-day use and can be charged wirelessly using Apple’s proprietary MagSafe connection at 15W. Qi chargers are also supported, albeit at a slower 7.5W. Wired charging has a maximum power of 30W and takes about an hour to fully charge.

The OnePlus 11 lacks wireless charging, but it does support 100W wired top-ups with the included power brick and cable. Customers in North America are limited to 85W, but you should still be able to charge to 50% in under 15 minutes.
