WhatsApp password-less Passkey feature: The new feature, which was introduced by WhatsApp, a Meta-owned company, will give users a more simple and secure way to access their WhatsApp accounts without the use of traditional passwords or two-factor SMS verification. The introduction of passkey functionality on WhatsApp is a positive move because it will increase user convenience and security. It’s nice to see that WhatsApp is among the first big apps to use passkeys, a promising new technique that has the potential to replace conventional passwords in the future.
About the new WhatsApp password-less Passkey feature
This functionality, which WhatsApp has been testing in the beta version, is now planned to be made available to all Android users. Unfortunately, there is still no official word on the release date for iPhone users’ access to WhatsApp passkeys. A new sort of login credential called a passkey is both safer and simpler to use than a standard password. They utilise the built-in authentication features of the user’s device, including fingerprint or facial recognition, and are based on public key cryptography. Passkeys are now significantly more resistant to phishing scams and other password theft methods.
How can you use it?
Users of Android devices will just need to enrol their device with a passkey in order to use the new passkey feature on WhatsApp. Once signed up, customers won’t need to input a password or wait to get a two-factor SMS code in order to log into WhatsApp using their passkey. All Android users will eventually get access to the capability. Go to Settings > Account in WhatsApp and see if it is there on your smartphone. You can proceed if the option “Passkeys” is present.
