In a tragic incident, at least 22 people died due to a shortage of Oxygen after an Oxygen tanker leaked while tankers were being filled at Dr Zakir Hussain Hospital in Maharashtra’s Nashik district on Wednesday. The officials were present at the spot and an operation to contain the leak is underway.
These patients were being treated at a hospital run by the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) for the COVID-19 patients.
News agency ANI has quoted Maharashtra Health Minister as saying, “Due to the walls leakage of the tanker in Nashik, there was massive Oxygen leakage. There must definitely have been an impact on the hospital it was going to but I’m yet to gather more information. We’ll issue a press note after gathering more information.”
The state’s FDA minister Dr Rajendra Shingane called it an “unfortunate incident” and ordered an enquiry. “It’s an unfortunate incident. We’re trying to get a detailed report,” Shingane was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis said what happend in Nashik is terrible. “I demand that the other patients be helped and shifted if needed. We demand a detailed inquiry,” Fadnavis told ANI.
Meanwhile, 58,924 new COVID-19 cases were reported in Maharashtra in the last 24 hours, according to the state health ministry. As many as 52,412 people recovered in the said period and 351 died. The total case tally reached 38,98,262 while the death toll reached 60,824.
