Nine people were killed and 27 others injured when a mini-bus fell into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Wednesday. Officials said around 36 passengers were traveling in the bus. The bus was going from Gali Maidan towards Poonch.
However, the bus met with an accident near the Barari drain in the border area of Savjiyan. According to officials, a joint rescue operation is being conducted in the area by the army, police and local villagers. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed grief over the loss of lives in the accident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased.
He tweeted, “Saddened by the death in a road accident in Savjian, Poonch. Condolences to the bereaved families. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. Five lakh rupees will be given to the next of kin of the deceased. Police and administration officials have been directed to provide best treatment to the injured.”
Earlier on August 16, a major accident took place in Chandanwadi of Jammu and Kashmir. Here the bus carrying ITBP personnel engaged in Amarnath Yatra duty had an accident. 6 jawans were martyred in the accident. While many soldiers were injured, who were airlifted to Srinagar Army Hospital.
