Air hostess suicide case: In the case of abut the suicide of former air hostess Geetika Sharma, a Delhi court on Tuesday acquitted former Haryana minister Gopal Goyal Kanda and his assistant Aruna Chadha. The prosecution, according to the court, “failed to prove the charges beyond all reasonable doubts.”
If the police filed an appeal against his conviction, the judge ordered Kanda and Chadha to provide a personal bond of one lakh rupees and show up in court.
After being exonerated, Kanda told the journalists, “The entire thing was made up. You can read the court order in front of you to understand it.
Kanda, a minister in the previous Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress administration in Haryana, was accused of violating several laws, including 306 (suicide attempt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 201 (evidence destruction), 120B (criminal conspiracy), and 466 (forgery). Additionally, he was accused of rape (376) and unnatural sex (377), but the Delhi high court eventually dismissed those accusations.
About the 2012 air-hostess Geetika Sharma’s suicide case
On August 5, 2012, Geetika Sharma, a former air hostess with Kanda’s MLDR flights, was discovered dead at her Ashok Vihar home in North West Delhi. She had written in her suicide note that she was doing it because Kanda and his assistant Chadha were “harassing” her.
Kanda, the head of the Haryana Lokhit Party and a member of the Haryana Assembly for the Sirsa Assembly constituency, was compelled to resign as minister of state for the home after the lawsuit was filed.
